“Agami showed that philanthropy and a good time went hand-in-hand”. The night was a huge success, raising over $25,000 for basic education of underprivileged children in Bangladesh. Please click on the  accompanying photos and videos for more footage.

Notes:
The event was marked by a speech delivered by Mr. Kazi Islam, CEO of Grameen Solutions, headquartered in Dhaka. Mr. Islam addressed the vital role of communications technology in improving the outlooks for education, heathcare, and economic progress in developing countries such as Bangladesh. He emphasized the inextricable link between access to technology and integration into the global economy. Mr. Islam also described the recent partnership between Grameen Solutions and the Intel World Ahead Program. With the goal of expediting socio-economic change in Bangladesh, the partnership plans to apply technology to improve classroom education and teacher training, specifically in the fields of math, science, and engineerin Mr. Kazi Islam speaking about Grameen Solutions, and delivering a message from Dr. Yunus. We were also entertained by comics Anand Chulani and Naveed Mahbub.

Attendees were treated to stand-up comedy routines by engineer-turned-comedian Naveed Mahbub and the infamously irreverent Anand Chulani. Naveed, fresh from his recent win as the Best Male Comedian at the 2007 Las Vegas Comedy Festival, honed his skills with quips on desi accents, immigration, Homeland Security, and call centers. Who says engineers can’t be funny?!

Anand, the featured act of the evening, opened his show with a strangely electrifying dance number. Anand, one of the Gurus of Comedy, is a frequent performer in the stand-up comedy circuit and has numerous television and movie credits. Anand riffed ontopics that ranged from family dynamics to gender identity. Let’s just say that we can’t print his jokes in this story!
